ORTON APPOINTED TO VICTORIAN ORDER BY HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN

January 2007

HONOUR FOR CONTRIBUTION TO CHILDREN'S LITERACY

Peter Orton said he was "stunned and delighted" to be told he had been included in the New Year Honours List, and to have been appointed a Commander of the Victorian Order by Her Majesty the Queen, for his contribution to children's literacy.

Orton, who was the Chairman and founder of HIT Entertainment, one of the world's most successful children's TV production, licensing and merchandising companies, was the man behind the Children's Party at the Palace in June last year. The event, which saw more than 2000 children joining the Queen to celebrate her 80th birthday at a party at Buckingham Palace, was broadcast to record audiences on BBC1.

Peter Orton came up with the idea following a visit by Her Majesty to HIT's London offices in 2005. Using his contacts and influence in the media world he achieved agreement from authors, copyright owners and children's labels to share the stage together for the first time ever.

Peter said: "To be appointed to the Victorian Order by Her Majesty is incredibly humbling, but also incredibly exciting. I am a very proud man"
