2005 MIPTV Lifetime Achievement Award. Peter was the first Briton to receive this award from the Marche Internationale de Television which is part of the REED-Midem organisation.

Honorary Doctor of Arts degree from De Montfort University in Leicester in 2002 'for his contribution to Children's TV and support for higher education and encouragement of young people in the industry.'

Peter Orton established The Peter Orton Scholarship at De Montfort University.
